Dr Diana Warner
Dr Diana Warner is a retired GP. She is of mixed European and Middle Eastern Jewish heritage. Diana's first awareness of how people outside of family can alter our lives came at the age of seven, when she was told that her German grandmother was killed in a gas chamber by the Nazis. Her determination to relieve people's suffering and to take a stand against injustices perhaps started then.
Following the work of Joliba Trust and Action Aid over 35 years has allowed Diana an early insight into the effects of global inequity and of the devestation caused by climate change and ecocide. She stood as Green Party MP candidate. Her first arrest was at Faslane in 2006, when she participated in the year long blockade of the nuclear submarine base.
Diana was examining a baby in 2018 when she suddenly understood that her doctor's commitment to protecting patients' health, wellbeing, and safety must include taking action to mitigate climate change. She joined the new group Extinction Rebellion, and in 2019 she began to lobby the doctors' regulatory body, the General Medical Council (GMC), that it was their responsibility to work with doctors and government to make sure that the dangers of climate change and ecocide are addressed. Convinced that nonviolent action is required at this time, Diana has subsequently been arrested many times and has also been imprisoned. She had been suspended from registration as a doctor for three months because of her actions but is now reinstated on the medical register.
